About Us

Fosters Solicitors, established in 1761, is one of the oldest law firms in England. From our rich heritage, we’ve grown into a modern, progressive firm that values integrity, professionalism, and exceptional client care. We put our clients, colleagues, and partners at the heart of everything we do.

Our Business & Commercial team provides specialist legal advice to businesses, directors, shareholders and individuals across a wide range of corporate and commercial matters. We work closely with our clients to understand their businesses and objectives, providing practical, commercially focused advice to help them achieve their goals.

The team is recommended in The Legal 500 UK 2026 across four practice areas: Corporate and Commercial, Commercial Litigation, Intellectual Property, and Media, Entertainment and Sport. Head of department Jamie Arnall holds Leading Partner status, and Head of Corporate Josh Perez-Fosh is recognised as a Next Generation Partner.

Recently Fosters was named the number one law firm in East Anglia for client recommendation by Legal 500 research – and we are proud of the relationships we build with our clients and the supportive culture we’ve created for our colleagues.

The Opportunity

We are looking to appoint a Trainee Solicitor to join the Corporate team within our Business & Commercial department.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Trainee Solicitor looking to develop their career in corporate law and gain experience across a varied range of transactions and company matters. You will work closely with experienced corporate lawyers and have the opportunity to develop your technical legal knowledge, commercial awareness and client management skills.

You will gain exposure to a range of corporate transactions and will be encouraged to take an active role in matters as your experience develops. You will have the opportunity to work with business owners, directors, shareholders and investors, developing an understanding of the commercial objectives that underpin the legal work we undertake.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, commercially minded and keen to learn, with a genuine interest in corporate law and the way businesses operate.

Main Responsibilities

As a Trainee Solicitor within our Corporate team, you will:

  • Assist with a varied caseload of corporate matters, supporting clients from initial instruction through to completion.
  • Assist with the sale and purchase of businesses and companies, including mergers and acquisitions.
  • Undertake legal research and assist with the preparation of legal advice and documentation.
  • Assist with due diligence exercises, reviewing and analysing corporate and commercial information.
  • Assist with drafting and reviewing corporate documentation, including sale and purchase agreements, shareholder agreements and other transactional documents.
  • Assist with company reorganisations, restructurings and other corporate transactions.
  • Support the team with company and shareholder matters, including advising directors and shareholders where appropriate.
  • Liaise with clients, accountants, financial advisers, other professional advisers and solicitors acting for other parties.
  • Attend client meetings and contribute to discussions as your experience develops.
  • Develop an understanding of clients’ businesses and the commercial considerations relevant to each transaction.
  • Assist with managing transactions and ensuring matters progress efficiently and within agreed timescales.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the firm where matters require input from other departments.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records and ensure files are managed in accordance with firm procedures.
  • Take responsibility for your own professional development and actively seek opportunities to develop your knowledge and skills.

 About You

We are looking for a Trainee Solicitor who is:

  • Passionate about developing a career in corporate law.
  • Commercially aware and interested in understanding how businesses operate and grow.
  • Interested in corporate transactions, mergers and acquisitions and company law.
  • A strong communicator who can build positive relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Organised, proactive and able to manage competing priorities.
  • A strong team player who is willing to learn from and support others.
  • Able to demonstrate excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Confident in undertaking legal research and analysing complex information.
  • Keen to take responsibility and develop their skills throughout their training contract.
  • Committed to providing excellent client service and practical, commercially focused advice.

Previous experience within a corporate or commercial legal environment would be advantageous, but we are equally interested in candidates who can demonstrate a genuine interest in corporate law and the skills, attitude and potential to succeed.
