Run Norwich volunteers named Community Heroes

Our first Community Heroes of the 2025-26 Norwich City season are David, Peter and Elaine, three regular volunteers for the Community Sports Foundation’s Run Norwich event.

Run Norwich is the Community Sports Foundation’s annual 10-kilometre road race taking place in the heart of Norwich’s city centre.

This year’s race takes place on Sunday, September 7.

David – Run Norwich volunteer

David started volunteering as a marshal and was always keen to do more and help out as much as he could. Over the years, David has progressed to becoming a sector head and a vital part of race day operations.

He said to the club: “To be nominated as a Community Hero by the Community Sports Foundation was a big shock, in a good way.

Each year, there are so many amazing volunteers helping with Run Norwich, so to be chosen for this is incredibly humbling.

It’s a real pleasure to be part of the team putting on such a fantastic event each year. Seeing the whole city come together to celebrate running in this way is truly inspiring.

Peter and Elaine – Run Norwich volunteers

Peter and Elaine are always two of the first people to volunteer at Run Norwich, bringing enthusiasm and encouragement to the runners. They can be found on Westlegate on race day cheering on the runners.

On being nominated as a hero, the pair said: “We are so surprised and delighted and really chuffed to be nominated and recognised for something we love doing.

“We’ve been marshals for Run Norwich since the first event; it’s so well organised by the Foundation and we’ve made good friends and had so much fun over the years at what is always a great day for the people sharing their love of Norwich.

“As soon as the date is announced, it’s in our calendar and we make sure that day is a priority.

“Being able to be a small part of making such a great day happen is fantastic.”

Head of fundraising for the Foundation, Emma Fletcher-Dungay said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be able to give Peter, Elaine and David the opportunity to represent our wonderful Run Norwich volunteers, who give up their time on race day to ensure that the runners and spectators have the best experience possible.

“We simply would not be able to deliver an event of this scale without volunteers.

“These three have been specifically chosen as they have not only dedicated their time over the 10 years but have embraced the opportunity to upscale their roles on the day, now taking on a more senior role within the event.”

About our Community Hero initiative

Since 2019, Fosters Solicitors have joined our partners Norwich City Football Club in highlighting the great work of local individuals and organisations in our community.

Every month during the football season, a ‘Community Hero’ is chosen for a selected matchday – providing an opportunity to showcase that person(s) or initiatives selfless work or important community campaign.

Previous Community Heroes have included young carers, veterans, equality campaigners, charity fundraisers and their beneficiaries.
