Fosters Solicitors

Criminal Law Solicitors

Here to support you when you need us

Our nationally-recognised Crime & Defence team are here to support you with their full defence service 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Ranked as a Top Tier firm by The Legal 500 UK, our experts are regularly involved in major criminal cases both locally and nationally.

Here to support you

If you are required to go to either the Magistrates Court or the Crown Court, it is important you receive the correct advice as to whether you should plead guilty or not guilty, as how the case progresses and the outcomes are all affected by the decisions you make. We can help you find your way through this process, and legal aid may be available for some cases and individuals.

How we can help

Our defence experts are experienced in all areas of criminal defence work. We will provide the advice you need, and conduct the hearings on your behalf, achieving the best result possible.

We can offer clear legal advice on the following:

  • Whether arrest or detention is likely or was lawful.
  • Whether evidence obtained by the police was done so lawfully.
  • Whether that evidence crosses the threshold for a prosecution.
  • If alternative charges should have been considered.
  • If a prosecution can be said to be in the public interest.
  • Test the reliability and admissibility of the evidence.
  • Advice on the strength of the prosecution case, and the defences available or raised.

We always offer affordable legal advice at fixed fees and our popular initial consultation appointments provide a wealth of information for you to progress your case with or without further assistance.

We offer a bespoke Crown Court advocacy service

Led by our Solicitor-Advocate Damien Moore, we will assess your needs and the benefits to be obtained from a tailored in-house advocacy service, which is principally offered by way of private funding, but in some instances will be available to those in receipt of legal aid.

In-house advocacy has a number of benefits, including access to your advocate at every stage of your case, from the police station investigation through to representation in the Magistrates Court and the Crown Court.

Expert support

Fraud is a complex, but increasingly common area of criminal law. Some of the issues raised by fraud allegations require specialist knowledge. They may involve complex accounting procedures and are often levelled against those with no experience of criminal law. Most cases will also involve Proceeds of Crime Act procedures, which may involve Confiscation or Restraint Orders. These Orders have a significant impact during the case and far beyond. For that reason, it is crucial to instruct lawyers who are not only specialists in crime, but who are familiar with defending fraud cases.

How we can help

From multi-million pound frauds to cryptocurrency hacking fraud, Fosters Solicitors has been involved at the forefront of many significant national fraud cases.

Rated by The Legal 500 as a ‘Top Tier’ firm for both Crime and Fraud, our specialists include two Legal 500 ‘Leading Individuals’ and a team with significant experience to ensure any allegations you may face are handled sensitively, robustly and with the skills needed to navigate this complex area. From the investigation stage, through to interviews and court proceedings our lawyers are available to help at any point.

Environmental defence

Environmental legislation is complex and a constantly developing area of law, covering a range of offences, which can relate to pollution (water, noise and air), the disposal and management of waste, and breaches in planning law. Penalties on conviction can include fines and in severe cases imprisonment, as well as the associated damage to the reputation of you and your business. We can provide expert support and representation to those under investigation by the Environmental Agency or relevant local authority.

Health and safety

We can provide expert support and representation to those under investigation for health and safety failures. Investigation by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE), local authority and even the police can have significant consequences for you, your business and its key staff. Penalties on conviction can include fines and in severe cases imprisonment, as well as the associated damage to the reputation of you and your business.

Trading Standards

Trading Standards investigations can cover a wide range of allegations, and our team has significant experience in dealing with the defence of both businesses and individuals under such investigation.

Examples include:

  • Animal welfare.
  • Consumer rights.
  • Fair trading.
  • Food safety and labelling.
  • Misselling of products and services.
  • Sales practices.
  • Supply of age restricted products.
  • Trademark and copyright offences.
  • Trade dispute offences.

Consequences for breaches of the legislation can be devastating in terms of penalties, consumer confidence in your business, and for the reputation of you, the organisation and key staff within it.

From formal cautions to fines and imprisonment, the risk to you and your organisation means that the best possible advice is needed from the outset to protect your interests.

How we can help
