About Us

Formed in 1761, Fosters Solicitors is one of the oldest law firms in England. From that rich heritage we have grown into a modern, vibrant law firm with a culture and values that puts our clients, colleagues and partners at the centre of all we do.

Our Medical Negligence & Inquests team are recommended as Top Tier in The Legal 500 UK, and noted for being “always professional but also very approachable”. Head of department, David Gabell is also listed as a ‘Next Generation Partner’.

We are proud to be an AvMA-accredited claimant medical negligence team, committed to delivering exceptional legal advice and compassionate support to our clients.

The Opportunity

We are looking to appoint an experienced Medical Negligence Solicitor (4+ years’ post-qualification experience) or Chartered Legal Executive with equivalent experience to join our highly regarded Medical Negligence & Inquests team.

This is a predominantly remote role, offering the opportunity to work from home while remaining closely connected with the wider team. You will be required to attend our Norwich office for an initial induction week, followed by occasional visits (anticipated to be approximately every two months), depending on client requirements and departmental needs.

This role would suit an enthusiastic and empathetic lawyer who is passionate about claimant medical negligence work, enjoys building strong client relationships and is looking for the next step in their career within a supportive and collaborative environment.

Main responsibilities

  • Manage a busy mixed caseload of claimant medical negligence files from initial instruction through to resolution.
  • Conduct detailed legal research and case analysis.
  • Liaise with medical experts, counsel and the court and other parties involved in proceedings.
  • Provide clear, empathetic, client-focused advise and support, maintaining regular communication to ensure clients are fully informed and supported throughout the legal process.
  • Ensure your clients achieve the best possible outcome to their claims, utilising your advanced litigation and negotiation skills.
  • Business Development – You will assist the team with the development of professional relationships with old and new service providers and potential referrers of work. This will include attendance at occasional networking events.
  • Supervise, mentor and support more junior colleagues, apprentices and trainee solicitors where appropriate, depending on experience.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Be a qualified Solicitor with a minimum of four years’ post-qualification experience, or a Chartered Legal Executive with equivalent experience.
  • Have demonstrable experience managing claimant medical negligence cases independently.
  • Possess excellent client care and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with vulnerable clients.
  • Be organised, self-motivated and capable of working autonomously within a remote environment.
  • Be a collaborative team player who contributes positively to departmental success.
  • Have an interest in supporting and developing less experienced colleagues.
  • Be willing to travel to Norwich when required for induction, team meetings and client or departmental needs.

Why join us?

At Fosters Solicitors, we believe in supporting our employees’ professional growth and well-being. We offer:

  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Opportunities for career development and progression within a Legal 500 Top Tier team.
  • The chance to work alongside recognised specialists in medical negligence and inquests.
  • A supportive and inclusive work environment.
