Fosters supports Norfolk Cricket Foundation charity launch

Earlier this month, we were delighted to join the official launch of the Norfolk Cricket Foundation as a charitable company.

Though our partnership with the Norfolk Cricket Board we have helped support them through their legal transition to a charity.

This launch event took place at The Nest, where we joined fellow stakeholders to celebrate this news and hear about the Foundation’s new brand and strategic four-year countywide plan, ‘A Game for Everyone 2025-2028’.

Introducing this plan, Lewis Denmark, Cricket Development Director at the Norfolk Cricket Foundation, said: “We’re delighted to launch the Norfolk Cricket Foundation and build upon the great legacy left by the staff and great volunteers around Norfolk that have helped create the Norfolk Cricket Board and create so many cricket opportunities for thousands of people over many years.

This is now an opportunity to build upon that great legacy and really try and take the game into new audiences, new places, new people, and really try and connect communities through the power of cricket. We genuinely believe that cricket has the opportunity and the ability to unite people and bring them together.”

Fosters’ Business & Commercial team have been heavily involved in the process of supporting the Foundation’s new direction, as our Senior Associate Charlotte Darkins explains:

It has been a pleasure to support the Foundation and have worked closely with their board of directors to move the organisation forwards, converting it from what was a standard limited organisation into a charitable company.

“This initially involved obtaining charity status for them by developing and submitting their application, before then addressing the corporate structure behind this and the necessary requirements from a Companies House perspective – finalising their articles and updating everything in line with their new charity status, all of which was fortunately achieved earlier this year.”

Lewis Denmark added: “As we move to our new brand, we have been indebted to the support of our stakeholders and sponsors who have helped us achieve this and Fosters Solicitors have been a great partner to us from a commercial perspective over the last 24 months.

Firstly, Fosters supported some of our junior county age group teams through initial match day and shirt sponsorships, and we’ve now progressed into using Fosters – who have really helped us and been a great partner to help us achieve charitable status over the last six months. And we’re truly grateful to the support that they’ve given us, and we look forward to working with Fosters moving forward.”

Obtaining charitable status

Our Business & Commercial team provides effective and pragmatic commercial advice to organisations of all types and sizes, including those looking to obtain charitable status.

Deputy Head of the team, Charlotte Darkins, explains: “We work with a range of charities in different parts of their life cycle. So, we’ve assisted other organisations who are looking to move into the charity sphere, away from the classic corporate structure they might have had before and who want to open new doors and new opportunities that having charitable status allows them to do.

We also work with new organisations who have the goal and the intention of working in the charitable sector, but who need to incorporate that organisation. We’ll work with them closely to obtain charitable status, developing all the documentation that they need.”
