Irish Canaries’ fan, Cillian O’Grady has been chosen as our Norwich City Community Hero for April.
He has also been named the club’s Michelle Dack Fan of the Season 2022/23, voted for by his fellow fans.
Cillian received over 4,000 votes in the public vote, including the support from last year’s runner up Jill Dann and the mother of last year’s winner, Amber Sheehy. Both expressing Cillian’s dedication and commitment to the club making him a deserved candidate.
Cillian regularly travels to Norwich City home and away fixtures, even though he is based in Dublin, Ireland. He is truly committed to the club and travels more than any known fan to watch the team, having done so consistently for the past two years.
The Irish Canary Supporters panellist also attends the Carrow Road supporters’ meetings in person.
Cillian said: “Winning the Michelle Dack Fan of the Season Award is beyond my wildest dreams. I’d like to firstly congratulate Clay Steggles and Nicol Nicholls on being shortlisted for the award, which in itself is an immense achievement and so well deserved.
“I wouldn’t be in the position to give the club and team such support if it wasn’t for the great support that I receive from my wife Joan who, when not attending games with me, is busy dropping and collecting me to and from Dublin Airport at ridiculous times.”
He continued: “Although I travel from Ireland for games, the players, club staff, fans and the people of Norfolk have made me feel at home in Norwich and made me feel like one of your own. Thank you all.”
Cillian will be presented with his award in front of the crowd at Norwich City’s home fixture against Swansea on Saturday, April 22.
Since 2019, Fosters Solicitors has joined our partners Norwich City Football Club in highlighting the great work of local individuals and organisations in our community. Every month during the football season, a ‘Community Hero’ is chosen for a selected matchday – providing an opportunity to showcase that person(s) or initiatives selfless work or important community campaign. Previous Community Heroes have included young carers, veterans, equality campaigners, charity fundraisers and their beneficiaries.
