Fosters Solicitors

Partner appointed to Office of the Public Guardian Deputy Panel

We are very pleased to confirm that Fosters’ Partner, Steve Green, has been appointed as a panel deputy by the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) – an important milestone that recognises the strength, experience and values of our Court of Protection & Vulnerable Persons practice.

This appointment, which is limited to firms who are able to show an established track record in acting for vulnerable clients, means that our dedicated Court of Protection & Vulnerable Persons team is one of only a very small number of firms in the region to be recognised in this specialist area –  reinforcing our growing reputation in this highly sensitive area of law.

The OPG plays a vital role in protecting people who may lack the mental capacity to make certain decisions for themselves, particularly in relation to their health and finances. Where no family member or friend is willing or able to act as a deputy, the Court of Protection turns to the OPG’s panel of trusted professional deputies to ensure individuals receive skilled, compassionate and independent support.

Head of Court of Protection & Vulnerable Persons, Paige Gouldthorpe and newly-appointed OPG Panel Deputy, Steve Green

Our Court of Protection & Vulnerable Persons team, headed by Partner Paige Gouldthorpe, has gone from strength to strength since its creation in October 2024. The team specialises in supporting vulnerable clients and their families through the deputyship process, guiding them through the complexities of the Court of Protection while also assisting with the practical, day-to-day matters that surround healthcare, property and financial decision-making.

Partner Steve Green commented: “I am delighted to have been appointed to the OPG panel. Supporting people who lack capacity is work that carries enormous responsibility, and it is a privilege to be able to act for individuals who need professional, empathetic and consistent support. Our focus has always been on putting the person at the centre of every decision, and this appointment reflects that ethos.”

Paige Gouldthorpe, Head of Court of Protection & Vulnerable Persons, added: “This appointment is a significant endorsement of the work our team does day in, day out and we are proud to be trusted with this recognition. Having Steve’s depth of deputyship experience within the team strengthens our collective expertise and further enhances the support we can offer to clients who rely on us at critical times in their lives. It reflects not only our technical capability, but also our shared commitment to acting with compassion, care and integrity for people who are often at their most vulnerable.”

This recognition further strengthens Fosters’ position as a leading regional firm in Court of Protection and vulnerable persons work, combining technical excellence with a genuine passion for helping those who need it most.
